Australian Doctors, Scientists Wage War on Alternative Medicine
by Marina Kamenev
March 2, 2012
The 450 members of Friends of Science in Medicine are fighting to remove what they are calling pseudosciences from university classes.
In 1997 Kevin Sorbo, known for his starring role in the television series Hercules, felt a searing pain in his left shoulder during a workout. Thinking it was a strain, he went to see his chiropractor, who manipulated his neck for treatment. Several days later the actor suffered a stroke and a recent article in Neurology Now links the aneurysm with the actions of his chiropractor. The article is currently used as reference material by a prominent group of Australian doctors, medical researchers, and scientists who are trying to curb what they refer to as pseudosciences, like

If you are GRUMPY, DEPRESSED and IRRITABLE, read this. Your mood is determined not only by what you think and feel, but by physiological things such as blood sugar, food sensitivities, liver function and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
FOODS greatly influence the brain. Poor diets, particularly those with too much sugar, caffeine and junk food are a common cause of depression and irritability. The brain will produce stress hormones when we eat the wrong things. However, on a good, balanced diet, the brain will produce serotonin, which is a relaxer. So fix your diet!
Is Food Packaging Affecting Your Health?
by Marcelle Pick, OB-GYN N.P.
May 19, 2011
Most of us are genuinely trying to do our best to be healthy -- we buy organic food, try to drink filtered water and include more fruits and vegetables with every meal. But what about the packaging surrounding our food?
Chemicals like Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and PCV (polyvinyl chloride) have all been found in plastic food packaging, the linings of soda cans and canned food. These chemicals, often referred to as endocrine disruptors, do much more than simply help to protect and contain our food. They can mimic our natural hormones, turning on or off the body's native hormone signals to block natural responses or trigger excessive action.

The miracle that cured my son's autism was in our kitchen
by Mackenzie Dawson
June 17, 2015
When a doctor told Susan Levin her 4-year-old son, Ben, was autistic, she was shocked. It was October 2007, and autism wasn't mentioned in the media nearly as much as it is today.
"I remember thinking, 'Oh my God. What are we going to do?' " Levin recalls. "Everyone knew autism was a lifelong disorder and couldn't be cured." Levin is part of a growing group of people who are paying more attention to diet - organic, gluten- and casein-free among them - as a way to treat the symptoms of autism and other disorders. So strongly does she believe in the healing possibilities of food that she's now a family wellness coach working exclusively with families of autistic children.
Energy-saving Bulb Dangers
by Lt. James L. Jester
April 10, 2014
By now, we have all seen them. We probably all have some in our homes. We most certainly have come into contact with them in the homes to which we respond. I am talking about energy-saving light bulbs.
They have many different names; compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), compact fluorescent light, and compact fluorescent tube, all describe a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent lamp. Compared to their incandescent brothers producing the same amount of visible light, CFLs consume less power (from 1/5 to 1/3) and have a longer service life (8 to 15 times).
Chiropractors Who Publish the Truth About Vaccines to be Silenced in Australia
by Louise Kuo Habakus and Mary Holland J.D.
August 13, 2013
In a brazen restriction of freedom of speech, chiropractors in Australia are being told they can no longer give their patients any information criticizing vaccines, and they must take down any anti-vaccine material from their websites.
If there could possibly be one country with a worse pro-vaccine bias than the United States, it just might be Australia. Starting with the (wrong!) presupposition that vaccines are safe and effective, there are moves to silence any opposing viewpoints on vaccines, including the chiropractic profession. Working from a healing paradigm that does not include drugs, the chiropractic profession has a long history of healing people. But this infuriates the medical profession that believes only drugs can treat sickness. The chiropractic profession has suffered much opposition in the U.S. also from the American Medical Association (AMA), who historically has tried to destroy them. The Supreme Court eventually found the AMA guilty of conspiracy to destroy the chiropractic industry.
8 ways to enjoy organic food on a budget
by Louisa McKenzie
September 16, 2016
Organic food is often cited as being better for your health and for the environment. However, many people are put off by organic food's perceived higher price tag.
This month The Soil Association is raising awareness of organic food and wants you to Organic Your September. However, if you think organic food is too costly, switching wholly or partly to organic needn't be as expensive as you probably think.
Gov. Brown signs controversial assisted-suicide bill
by Los Angeles Times
October 5, 2015
Caught between conflicting moral arguments, Gov. Jerry Brown, a former Jesuit seminary student, signed a measure Monday allowing physicians to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients who want to hasten their deaths.
"In the end, I was left to reflect on what I would want in the face of my own death," Brown wrote in a signing message. "I do not know what I would do if I were dying in prolonged and excruciating pain. I am certain, however, that it would be a comfort to be able to consider the options afforded by this bill. And I wouldn't deny that right to others."
