A chiropractor's point of view on pillows and sleeping position

Back sleeper? Side sleeper? Stomach sleeper? All of the above? Humans can sleep in a wide variety of positions. Not one position is technically the "right" way to sleep, although there are strong arguments for some over others.
The most common sleeping positions are back, side, and stomach. There are some other contortionist positions but we will stick with these for now. With each position, the placement and type of pillow should differ. If you always sleep in the same position, you may want to try the others to see if it makes a change in your comfort level and quality of sleep.

An old Chinese proverb states, "Only when one cannot sleep does one know how long the night is." Anyone who's ever experienced an occasional bout with insomnia-and that's most of us-can relate to this all too well.
In fact, surveys have shown that between 40 and 60 percent of the general population has trouble sleeping. Daily stress and worries, pressures from job and family, body aches and pains caused by uncomfortable beds or pillows, and a host of other issues can keep a person from getting enough quality sleep.

Learning the limits of overuse injuries

A recent study by the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that teens between ages 15 and 19 now account for almost 60 percent of all Tommy John surgeries. This is followed by the 20-to-24-year-old age group.
Most often, these and related shoulder injuries are caused by extreme stress placed on the shoulder by overhand motions repeatedly performed at high speeds. This is especially true for young pitchers, swimmers, and athletes who are not only developing physically but are also continually overwhelmed by repetitive stress to the shoulder and surrounding ligaments, muscles, and tendons. In fact, "Little League elbow" is now a common diagnosis for many 10-to-14-year-olds.

The stories became far too frequent to ignore. Emails from folks with allergic or digestive issues to wheat in the United States experienced no symptoms whatsoever when they tried eating pasta on vacation in Italy.
Confused parents wondering why wheat consumption sometimes triggered autoimmune reactions in their children but not at other times. In my own home, I've long pondered why my husband can eat the wheat I prepare at home, but he experiences negative digestive effects eating even a single roll in a restaurant.

I love to sit by a lake, river, in the woods, anywhere outdoors in the evening after work. I take a bag of essential oils, and tap on my body's natural comfort points using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
The acupressure points of the feet also are great places to apply the oils. It takes only moments to release the stress of the work day. Then I work on releasing old patterns, hurts, stress to body, mind or spirit. Once that is done I move on to envisioning the future I wish to attract. If you ever have one of those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, take a few moments with these six oils. Apply on top of your head, over your heart, and to the bottoms of your feet. Your energy will shift quickly. Remember to work with intention, rubbing the oils clockwise in your hands before application.

Delaying kindergarten enrollment for one year shows significant mental health benefits for children. Researchers found that a one-year delay in enrolling a child in kindergarten dramatically reduces inattention and hyperactivity at age seven.
Researchers found that children who were held back from kindergarten for as little as one year showed a 73 percent reduction in inattentiveness and hyperactivity compared to children sent the year earlier, according to this new study on kindergarten and mental health.
