USDA to mask sodiu benzoate preservative with new 'anti-microbial' label to trick consumers

Kraft Foods Global, Inc. and a food chemical company known as Kemin Food Technologies, Inc. have both propositioned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in recent years to approve the use of propionic acid.
Kemin says its liquid propionic acid and salts solutions, collectively known as BactoCEASE, extend the shelf life of meat products, and protect them against contamination by Listeria monocytogenes. But long-term consumption of both propionic acid and sodium benzoate has been linked to causing serious side effects, including brain damage, personality disorders, gastrointestinal problems, autism, and various other neurological problems. And yet Kemin wants to have these additives specifically listed on ingredient labels as "anti-microbial" nutrients in order to fool the public into thinking they are safe.

Alarmingly, a full 20% of pregnant women now use these prescription painkillers, according to the New York Times. What's worse, not all women are being prescribed opioids equally: those with Medicaid, as well as those who live in the south, are being prescribed painkillers during pregnancy at much higher rates: 23% of women on Medicaid, compared to 14% of women with private insurance, are being prescribed opioids.

Have you ever heard of DPA, also called diphenylamine? This is a chemical used widely on apples after they have been harvested. DPA is used to prevent what the industry calls storage scald -brown spots that appear on the fruit.
As a result of tests done in 2010 by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) which found 80% of apples on US produce shelves contain on average 0.42 ppm of DPA, Europe will be cutting its imports unless DPA numbers can drastically reduce. How will North Americans respond though? With there being 4 times more DPA than what's allowable in Europe, American standards seem much more lenient and the care taken to protect citizens from hazardous chemicals is not as strict a priority.

By now, we have all seen them. We probably all have some in our homes. We most certainly have come into contact with them in the homes to which we respond. I am talking about energy-saving light bulbs.
They have many different names; compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), compact fluorescent light, and compact fluorescent tube, all describe a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent lamp. Compared to their incandescent brothers producing the same amount of visible light, CFLs consume less power (from 1/5 to 1/3) and have a longer service life (8 to 15 times).

Consider it a coming out, of sorts. It's true. I'm one of *them*. I'm a refuser. For those of you who don't know this already, I feel it's time to just put it right out there and take ownership. My husband and I are the "crazies"...
For fun, ask your doctor to share with you all they know about the ingredients (active and inactive) in the vaccines. Then ask them to show you the package insert for each of the vaccinations your child is about to receive. I have. I can almost guarantee they will tell you, "Don't worry about it. I am the doctor. It's for the best. Do you have a medical degree?" They really won't know or say much more, except to possibly give you a condescending lecture and the crackerjack eye for daring to question their authority. Uhh...as you might imagine, I'd highly recommend you DO question their authority.

When it comes to health and nutrition, it seems like everything old is new again. Many foods or health protocols that used to be commonly enjoyed were later attacked and discredited by industry-funded "scientists" trying to sell toxic substitutes.
Before the rise of factory foods, nearly all food was local. As a result, it was also far healthier and more nutritious than today's centrally-manufactured, distributed foods (think McDonald's Chicken McNuggets). Now, thanks to the rise of the local food movement, CSAs and farmers markets, local food is popular again. It also happens to be ecologically sustainable. If humanity is to survive the next century, it must do so by learning how to produce local decentralized food.
What You Don't Know About Salt CAN Hurt You

CDC studies suggest that a lower rate of salt consumption might actually be harmful. People who consume the least amount of salt were actually found to have the highest rates of cardiovascular disease.
The most commonly known additive found in salt is iodine, which has been added to salt for almost a century in order to help prevent thyroid disease. While iodine is important to thyroid health, the iodine added to salt is not a form that is very absorbable by the body and therefore, is largely wasted. When iodine is added to salt, it is necessary for manufacturers to also add in sugar, usually in the form of corn syrup (*GMO alert*). Iodine, in the form of potassium iodide, is unstable when combined with sodium. By adding sugar to the salt/iodine combination, the manufacturer is able to prevent oxidation and keep the iodine stable. The sugar also prevents discoloration that may make salt appear unpalatable. When looking for sugar on the nutrition label for salt, look for the word "dextrose."
