Institute of Physics
by Joe Winters
October 31, 2007
Physicists in Arizona State University have designed a revolutionary laser technique which can destroy viruses and bacteria such as AIDS.
The research, published on Thursday November 1 in the Institute of Physics' Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, discusses how pulses from an infrared laser can be fine-tuned to discriminate between problem microorganisms and human cells.
This is not a month for slouchers

This is National Correct Posture Month. The American Chiropractic Association, wishes "to broaden public awareness of the importance of correct posture as an integral part of everyday health care."
I tried sitting up straight when all those teachers told me to, but it never took. I've since pretty much resigned myself to slouching through life, shoulders relaxed, head down.
Delayed Kindergarten Enrollment Dramatically Reduces ADHD In Children, Study Shows
November 7, 2015
Delaying kindergarten enrollment for one year shows significant mental health benefits for children. Researchers found that a one-year delay in enrolling a child in kindergarten dramatically reduces inattention and hyperactivity at age seven.
Researchers found that children who were held back from kindergarten for as little as one year showed a 73 percent reduction in inattentiveness and hyperactivity compared to children sent the year earlier, according to this new study on kindergarten and mental health.
Vaccinated vs. Unvaccinated: Guess who is Sicker?
by Celeste McGovern
May 4, 2017
It's never been done before. The first-of-its-kind study of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated American homeschooled children shows who is really ailing... and parents should be worried.
Something is wrong with America's children. They are sick - allergic, asthmatic, anxious, autoimmune, autistic, hyperactive, distracted and learning disabled. Thirty-two million American children - a full 43% of them - suffer from at least one of 20 chronic illnesses not including obesity. Across the board, once rare pediatric disorders from autism and ADD to Type 1 diabetes and Tourette's syndrome are soaring, though few studies pool the data. Compared to their parents, children today are four times more likely to have a chronic illness.
There's A Simple Way To Make A Big Dent In California's Drought. Why Aren't Government Officials Promoting It?
by Leighton Woodhouse
April 8, 2015
If just one in ten Southern Californians were to install a greywater system in their home, the state would conserve as much potable water as it expects to generate through the massive $1 billion desalination plant that is about to come online.
So why aren't more state and local government officials encouraging California homeowners to install residential greywater systems as a key part of reducing urban water usage throughout the state?
Have American Parents Got It All Backwards?
by Christine Gross-Loh
July 4, 2014
Though parents around the world have the same goals, American parents like me (despite our very best intentions) have gotten it all backwards.
We need to let 3-year-olds climb trees and 5-year-olds use knives. Imagine my surprise when I came across a kindergartener in the German forest whittling away on a stick with a penknife. His teacher, Wolfgang, lightheartedly dismissed my concern: "No one's ever lost a finger!" Similarly, Brittany, an American mom, was stunned when she moved her young family to Sweden and saw 3- and 4-year-olds with no adult supervision bicycling down the street, climbing the roofs of playhouses and scaling tall trees with no adult supervision.
Healthy Postures For Your Daily Tasks (VIDEO)
by Laura Schocker
June 20, 2011
We all know that sitting hunched over at a desk all day isn't good for the back -- but there are actually a variety of unhealthy postures we may be holding all day without even knowing it.
Turns out, the wrong stance can put stres and tension on the wrong areas of the body, Dr. Perry Wolk-Weiss, a chiropractor, told Daily Connection in this video. And that can cause long-term health problems.
Is Food Packaging Affecting Your Health?
by Marcelle Pick, OB-GYN N.P.
May 19, 2011
Most of us are genuinely trying to do our best to be healthy -- we buy organic food, try to drink filtered water and include more fruits and vegetables with every meal. But what about the packaging surrounding our food?
Chemicals like Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and PCV (polyvinyl chloride) have all been found in plastic food packaging, the linings of soda cans and canned food. These chemicals, often referred to as endocrine disruptors, do much more than simply help to protect and contain our food. They can mimic our natural hormones, turning on or off the body's native hormone signals to block natural responses or trigger excessive action.
