Chiropractic: A Holistic Health Alternative
by Drs. Michael Cocco and Timothy Sweigard
December 8, 2004
Established in 1895, the chiropractic profession has grown to become the third largest health profession in the United States.
Chiropractic comes from a Greek word that means "effective treatment by hand". Chiropractic, as a healing art, is based on the understanding that a normally functioning spine and nervous system is critical to good health. Research has consistently proven that chiropractic gets people better faster with less cost and longer-lasting results than traditional medical care for back and neck pain.
Chiropractic, osteopathy or manipulative spinal manipulation followed by exercise provides significant relief of back pain symptoms

A new study of back pain treatments, co-ordinated by researchers at the University of York, has found that spinal manipulation, in the form of chiropractic, osteopathy, or manipulative physiotherapy, followed by a programme of exercise, provides significa
The study, backed by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and co-ordinated by the Trials Unit in the University's Department of Health Sciences, is the biggest of its type ever mounted in the United Kingdom. It involved more than 1,300 patients in 140 GP practices across the UK. The UK Back pain Exercise And Manipulation (UK BEAM) randomised trial assessed the effectiveness of adding different treatments to 'best care' in general practice for patients with lower back pain, one of the most common ailments general practitioners have to treat.
Chiropractic Treats Headaches and Migraines

Patients respond positively to chiropractic adjustments to alleviate migraines and severe headaches. For patients that do not respond to medication and other common treatments, chiropractic care helps to address headaches and migraines at their source.
As reported from the Migraine Research Foundation, approximately 36 million Americans suffer from migraines with women of the ages of 25 to 55, the most likely candidates of the condition. Migraines, in general, start at one side of the head but can spread to both with the most significant pain around the sides of the forehead. Some individuals experience auras, or visual disturbances, along with or preceding the full onset of the migraine.

It has been documented in a variety of studies that general health and habit factors may perpetuate the presence of myofascial / soft-tissue patterns of pain.
These include nutritional, metabolic, endocrine and psychological influences; but often some of the worst offenders are contributors such as sustained postural demands and poor body mechanism. Thus one goal of chiropractic treatment has been to increase movement in the joints and relax the pain-producing contributory muscles.
Chiropractic Treatment for Scoliosis
September 14, 2017
Scoliosis is an intricate disease. Experts still don't know what causes 80% of scoliosis cases, and there is no cure. But there's still hope! There are proven methods to treat scoliosis and reduce its symptoms.
Traditional chiropractic treatment applies a general approach, similar to what the chiropractor would do for any other patient experiencing back problems. However, if the chiropractor is not practiced in scoliosis and familiar with its intricacies, traditional chiropractic treatment is unlikely to have much of an effect on the Cobb angle. This method is only recommended for patients over the age of 13 with very small Cobb angles of 20 degrees or less. Traditional treatment can be useful for relieving pain, but not for physically straightening the Cobb angle in scoliosis patients.

These findings offer a scientific explanation for the positive health benefits reported by patients receiving chiropractic care.

Marlena wasn't sure she could last that long. Then a friend suggested she take her baby to a chiropractor. She went to a chiropractor who specializes in treating children. After three sessions with the chiropractor, Cameron was a completely different child...
Chiropractic evaluation useful tool for athletes
The Citizen (NY)
by Scott Kilmer
December 5, 2006
For whatever reason, young athletes today are more focused and driven than ever before. As a result, some of our youth are involved in competition or training 365 days a year.
A young athlete's body can wrack up quite a bit of banging around and trauma. What might be written off as "growing pains" may well be accumulated trauma to the joints and spine.
