8 Ways: Inspiring People to Move Toward Wellness
by Isabelle Rousseau-Caron
June 17, 2011
As chiropractors, we all have essentially the same mission statement: to contribute to people's health through chiropractic care and inspire them to move toward wellness. Fulfilling the first part of the statement is easy for a chiropractor.
Be the person you ask your patients to be. You want people to be healthy? Be healthy. You want them to exercise, to eat well and to control their stress level? Do it yourself first. Then share your experiences, your accomplishments, your challenges and your tips, knowing what you're talking about.
Is Food Packaging Affecting Your Health?
by Marcelle Pick, OB-GYN N.P.
May 19, 2011
Most of us are genuinely trying to do our best to be healthy -- we buy organic food, try to drink filtered water and include more fruits and vegetables with every meal. But what about the packaging surrounding our food?
Chemicals like Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and PCV (polyvinyl chloride) have all been found in plastic food packaging, the linings of soda cans and canned food. These chemicals, often referred to as endocrine disruptors, do much more than simply help to protect and contain our food. They can mimic our natural hormones, turning on or off the body's native hormone signals to block natural responses or trigger excessive action.
Legal Issues: Unprecedented Court Ruling for MAC!
May 2, 2011
Michigan Chiropractors Win Class Status Against Blue Cross and Blue Care Network
In Michigan Association of Chiropractors and Toby A. Mitchell, DC, v. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the MAC asserts that our members who are or have been participating providers with BCBSM have been harmed because BCBSM has engaged in a practice of not paying chiropractic providers for covered chiropractic services, while paying other non-chiropractic providers for providing the same services. We further assert that MAC members who are not, and have not been, participating providers have been damaged by being discouraged from entering into provider contracts with BCBSM by these same policies, which we believe to be in violation of not only Michigan law, but also the individual provider contracts themselves and the 1999 Settlement Agreement.

Source of golfers' back pain? It's all in the hips
by Sandy Thorn Clark
A Westmont chiropractor says often golfers mistakenly think their pain originates in the back. Take a look at the hip joints and that may very well be the origin of the pain.
If hip motion inhibition is confirmed, Wehrend then administers massage, electrical stimulation, acupuncture and/or Kinesio Taping to help alleviate pain and promote healing. He also has the patient perform customized in-office and take-home exercises to build strength.

Infantile colic could be the cause of a baby's crying
by Jessie Moniz
April 12, 2011
There are some babies who are as good as gold and spend all day cooing and smiling at people, and then there are those others the ones that cry from day one, for months on end.
Infantile colic is defined as babies under three months old crying for more than three hours a day. Doctors are still out on the cause of colic. Some people attribute it to gas, undeveloped intestines, a food allergy or just general disposition. Some researchers are now looking at the possibility that the baby's back and spine may be part of the problem.
