One mainstream farmer is returning to conventional seed - and he's not alone. Staring at a future of lower corn prices and higher inputs, Huegerich decided to experiment. Two years ago, he planted 320 acres of conventional corn and 1,700 with GMO corn.

To his delight, the conventional fields yielded 15 to 30 more bushels per acre than the GMO fields, with a profit margin of up to $100 more per acre. Hugerich Isn't the only farmer retreating from GMO seeds. In pockets across the nation, commodity growers are becoming fed up with traits that don't work like they used to. Not only are the seeds expensive (GMO corn can cost $150 more per bag than conventional corn), they're also driving farmers to buy and apply more chemicals. During the growing season, Huegerich sprays both his conventional and his GMO corn twice with herbicides and twice with pesticides, despite the GMO's theoretical resistance to rootworm. "It gives me peace of mind," Huegerich says. Between 2001 and 2010, the consumer advocacy group Food & Water Watch reports, total on-farm herbicide use increased 26 percent as weed resistance grew. Today, 61.2 million acres of cropland, including many of Huegerich's, are plagued by glyphosate-resistant weeds.

The stories became far too frequent to ignore. Emails from folks with allergic or digestive issues to wheat in the United States experienced no symptoms whatsoever when they tried eating pasta on vacation in Italy.

Confused parents wondering why wheat consumption sometimes triggered autoimmune reactions in their children but not at other times. In my own home, I've long pondered why my husband can eat the wheat I prepare at home, but he experiences negative digestive effects eating even a single roll in a restaurant.

Is Low Calcium Or An Acidic Diet The Primary Risk For Calcium Deficiency? A Recent meta-analysis of studies (Fenton et al, 2008) has found that increased acidity from the modern diet appears to increase urinary Calcium losses by at least 66mg/day.

Over 20 years this looks like a huge 480g of Calcium lost potentially from bones which contain a total of 1,150g calcium in adults. That is a third of our calcium stores. No wonder we are seeing more osteoporosis, osteopenia and reduced bone density in women and men. To understand this better, let's briefly recap the role calcium plays in our body. Most of us, I am sure, are under the impression, calcium is only important as far as our bone structure and strength goes. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Calcium is required in the body to regulate the pH of the blood. It is found in the bones because that is where it is chiefly stored. Calcium is alkaline and is used to maintain homeostasis of our blood pH. If our blood becomes too acidic our body can go into shock, acidosis and coma.

More and more parents around the globe are choosing to opt out of vaccinating themselves and their children. As a result of this trend that's been gaining more and more momentum, a harsh response has come from the "pro-vaccine" community.

At the end of the day it's not really about "pro-vaccination" or "anti-vaccination," it's not one "against" the other or about pointing fingers and judgement, it's simply about looking at all of the information from a neutral standpoint. It's about asking questions and communicating so people can make the best possible decisions for themselves and their children. Parents love their kids and the vaccine "controversy" has made it difficult for many parents to know what to do.

Chiro's resurgence is being fueled by high-powered CEOs, Hollywood studio execs, and A-listers-mostly via concierge services in their homes or offices or on movie sets.

"A patient of mine asked if I would leave my practice and travel around the world with him to treat him," says Los Angeles-based Brad Fazekas, D.C. The paparazzi snapped Leonardo DiCaprio leaving a chiropractic office in New Orleans; Kim Kardashian tweeted, "Chiropractors really are life savers. . . . I'm obsessed!;"and Jessica Alba is reportedly a fan. Why they're doing it: Because it's not just about easing back problems. Karen Erickson, D.C., a spokesperson for the American Chiropractic Association, says, "Besides relief of muscle soreness and pain, patients often report an overall feeling of well-being and reduced stress." Getting straightened out can have benefits for both your sedentary life and your gym performance.

The weekend of May 17, writer Lindsay Kujawa and her toddler son Ronin were at a family pool party. Kujawa sat at the edge of the pool while Ronin played on the top step of the spa, and for five seconds she shifted her position.

Suddenly, she noticed Ronin wasn't on the step and was instead being whirled around by the jets in the whirlpool, frantically trying to get his head above water. She pulled him out immediately and other than him coughing and being very upset, he seemed totally fine after a few minutes and they went on with the rest of the party.

Considered one of the most photographed landscapes in the United States, The Wave is a sandstone rock formation in the Coyote Buttes near the Arizona-Utah border. Each year, hikers scramble to get one of the few permits granted to hike in.

Only 20 hikers a day are allowed, and tens of thousands of people apply every year to be one of those lucky hikers. But how is this strange, surreal beauty even possible? There are two major troughs: the first is 62 feet wide and 118 feet long, and the second is 7 feet wide and 52 feet long. The troughs were first formed by water erosion, as run-off carved deeper and deeper into stone from the Jurassic age. But as the drainage basin that fed water to the troughs shrank, water flow ceased, and the fascinating formation -- with steps and risers cut high into the steep sandstone walls -- has been continued entirely through erosion by wind as it funnels through the troughs.
